Are You Still Able To See The Good Things?

As we age, our cells gradually lose their ability to sense nutrients—a phenomenon closely tied to cellular aging and dysfunction. This loss of nutrient sensing means that our cells become less responsive to the vital signals that regulate growth, repair, and metabolism. One of the primary causes of this decline is the constant overabundance of nutrients, which overwhelms the body’s finely tuned systems. Our modern lifestyles, marked by relentless availability of food, overstimulation, and perpetual consumption, mirror this cellular state on a broader scale.

This cellular insensitivity to nutrients is a metaphor for how, on other levels, constant abundance can numb our senses and appreciation. Just as our cells struggle to respond to nutrients when they are perpetually flooded, we too may lose sight of the value of the things we endlessly consume—comfort, entertainment, even relationships—when they are always within reach. This overexposure can dull our ability to appreciate the subtleties and deeper meanings of life, leading us to take for granted what is most essential.

Periods of fasting, withdrawal, or deliberate abstention—whether from food, technology, or any other constant indulgence—can act as a reset. They help restore balance and recalibrate our senses, both physically and spiritually. Fasting gives our cells a chance to rest and repair, reigniting their ability to respond and adapt. On a personal level, stepping back from constant consumption can help us rediscover joy in simplicity, gratitude in scarcity, and fulfillment in presence rather than possession.

Through such practices, we learn to see the inherent value in what is often overlooked or taken for granted. These moments of intentional withdrawal teach us that true richness is found not in overabundance but in mindful engagement, reminding us that sometimes, less is more, and that life’s true nourishment often lies in the spaces between.
