When you look after bees you learn to be very gentle. If you crush a bee the whole hive responds. For this reason, a hive inspection is a kind of high-pressure tai chi. You need to move slowly but also purposely without any error. Don’t drop a frame or make a mistake or the result will be instant karma. For me, there are great rewards (apart from the 20kg of honey) in looking after the little blighters. It’s good to be able to take part in the hive.
